Steelman is a Chrome extension that shows the most persuasive counterarguments to the article you are reading. This page explains what data the extension handles and how.

What Steelman reads

When you click the Steelman toolbar icon on a page, the extension reads the visible text of that page's article so it can be analyzed. This only happens when you explicitly click the icon — Steelman never reads page content automatically or in the background.

What Steelman stores

Your AI provider choice and your own API key (for OpenAI or Anthropic) are stored only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your device. They are never sent to any server operated by us.

The text extracted from the page you clicked on is held briefly in your browser's session storage (chrome.storage.session) only to pass it from the extension's background script to its side panel, and is cleared when the browser session ends.

Where your data goes

The extracted article text and your API key are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you selected (OpenAI's or Anthropic's API) in order to generate the counterarguments shown in the side panel. This is the only place any of this data is sent. We do not operate any server that receives, stores, or processes this data, and we do not use it for advertising, analytics, or any purpose other than generating the counterarguments you asked for.

What Steelman does not do

• It does not collect your name, email, location, or any other personal information.
• It does not track your browsing history.
• It does not monitor clicks, keystrokes, or other activity.
• It does not sell or share your data with anyone other than the AI provider you chose.
